Sausage Kabobs

Kabobs are a great dinner option when you need something fast, easy, and filling. By cooking the shrimp, smoked sausage, and veggies all on one skewer, you save yourself lots of time and energy making a varied dinner for your family.

With meat and veggies all on one skewer, these kabobs make the perfect dinner. No need to cook a side separate from your main course: it’s an all-in-one package deal with these sausage kabobs!

Ingredients for Shrimp and Sausage Skewers

Here’s what you’ll need to make these shrimp and sausage skewers:

  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 orange or yellow bell pepper
  • 1/2 large red onion
  • 1 pound baby portobello mushrooms
  • 1 pound U-15 (colossal) shrimp
  • 12-oz beef smoked sausage rope
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Creole or Cajun seasoning

Once you have all your ingredients assembled, chop the peppers, onion, and sausage into 1-inch pieces to make them easy to pierce on your skewers. You’re ready to make your kabobs and get to cooking!

How to Make Shrimp and Sausage Kabobs

After you have all your ingredients assembled and chopped, you’re ready to make these shrimp and sausage kabobs! Follow these simple steps to making your own sausage kabobs at home:

  1. Make the kabobs. Alternate all the ingredients on your metal skewers so they are even and use all the ingredients. You should be able to make 6-8 kabobs with the ingredients listed above.
  2. Grill the kabobs. While you’re assembling your kabobs, go ahead and preheat your grill to 450 degrees F for direct grilling. Place the kabobs on the grill, close the lid, and cook for 8-10 minutes, turning every 3-4 minutes so all ingredients are evenly cooked.
  3. Remove and enjoy. Once your skewers are fully cooked (shrimp is opaque, sausage is cooked through, and veggies are tender), remove the skewers from the grill and serve immediately. These are best enjoyed right off the grill when nice and hot.

Tips for Making Shrimp and Smoked Sausage Kabobs

These shrimp and smoked sausage kabobs are pretty easy to make, there’s nothing technical about this recipe. But here are a few tips for making shrimp and sausage kabobs exactly to your liking:

  • Chop your veggies and smoked sausage evenly. Make sure you are chopping all your peppers, onions, and sausage pieces to the same size. This will help ensure that they cook at the same time.
  • Use reusable metal skewers. Skip the wooden kind that tend to splinter, and use some sturdy metal skewers to make your kabobs. Not only will they be easier to spear your veggies, but they’ll last longer too! If you do choose to use wooden skewers, soak them in water several hours before they go on the grill.
  • Substitute for your favorite veggies. If you’re not an onion fan, there’s no need to add them to your skewer. Simply substitute for a red bell pepper or more mushrooms. These are your kabobs, so make sure that they only have your favorite items on them.

Ingredients

  • 1 red bell pepper cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 yellow or orange bell pepper cut into 1 inch pieces
  • ½ large red onion cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 pound baby portobello mushrooms
  • 1 pound U-15 (Colossal) shrimp peeled, de-veined, with tails removed
  • 1 12-oz beef smoked sausage rope cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Creole or Cajun seasoning

Instructions

  • Heat the grill. Preheat your grill to 450 degrees F for direct grilling.
  • Make the kabobs. Right before you assemble your kabobs, drizzle the meat and veggies with olive oil and season with the Creole or Cajun seasoning. • Serve hot. Remove the kabobs from the grill and serve immediately.

With no grill, assume I can prepare on a stovetop grill, or in a 450 oven, turning skewers as directed?

    Thanks.
