Hey Grill Hey Chicken Rub

If you love smoking and grilling chicken of any kind, then you already know about my Chicken Rub. I don’t need to tell you about how I carefully picked every quality ingredient in this signature blend of herbs and spices. You know all about how it turns that bland, old chicken recipe into everyone’s favorite night of the week. But maybe, just maybe you didn’t know you can use it when the recipe doesn’t call for it. You might not know it’s also pretty tasty on a lot more than chicken. Yeah, that’s right. This savory rub gives a little oomph to any veggie you can shake it at. It also adds a flavor blast to fish, pork loin, or any other protein that needs some herby love.

This isn’t a recipe post (but I’m sure you could find one in your Rub Recipes). It’s just a handy reference if you want to learn what else you can use your Chicken Rub on. If you’re ready to increase your backyard BBQ hero status, it starts with what’s in the bottle.

Flavor Profile: What’s Inside

Like everything I put my name on, this rub contains only high-quality ingredients. You won’t find any MSG or artificial additives here. What you will find is a medley of dried spices, including garlic, onion, rosemary, thyme, and even some lemon peel. A touch of cayenne pepper and smoked paprika will give all your chicken a slight heat and an extra layer of smokiness.

Put it all together, and you’ve got a perfectly-balanced blend that brings the flavor without hogging the glory from your chicken. If you like your chicken and other meats infused with rich notes of herby goodness, then Chicken Rub has everything you want.

How to Use Chicken Rub

All the recipes in your Hey Grill Hey recipe library featuring Chicken Rub already give specific directions in the recipe card. All you have to do is select the recipe you want to make, then scroll down to the recipe card. You’ll find directions for how to use your seasoning, plus any special notes. You can usually swap it out evenly for my other rubs in most cases, or go 50/50. It makes a savory addition to any of my BBQ sauces for an all-new flavor profile.

You can also use Chicken Rub when crafting your own BBQ creations. When I’m testing out new recipes, I usually start with around 1 Tablespoon of rub per pound of meat, then adjust up or down from there. If you make the next great American chicken dish, then remember to come back and tell me about it in the comments.

Pairing Suggestions

I really love brining whole chickens and turkeys before seasoning them with Chicken Rub. Brining is a great way to help keep your chicken tender and juicy as it takes on all the rich smoke during cooking. If you want a simple brine great for all your poultry, then check out my Apple Spice Smoked Turkey Brine. Yes, the title says it’s for turkey (and boy oh boy, is it), but not just turkey. The sweet and savory notes this brine adds deep in your smoked chicken and other birds is something else.

Non-Chicken Chicken Rub Recipes

Not confusing at all, right? While I originally designed for chicken, I soon found the balance this seasoning provides makes it ideal for all kinds of recipes. Not only does it amp up the smokey flavor of turkey and other poultry, it also works wonders on veggies. Here are some of my favorite recipes to use this Chicken Rub with you might not expect, including some pork. I mean, just looking at them is making me want to fire up the smoker:
