Salted Honey Butter

If you’ve ever had that fluffy, sweet butter on a warm dinner roll at your favorite steakhouse, then you’re going to love my salted honey butter. It has all the sweet smoothness you expect from the honey and vanilla, and the rich creaminess all good butter. It’s light and fluffy just like you get at the restaurant. The thing that sets my homemade honey butter recipe apart is the flaky salt. This savory secret ingredient gives the honey butter all the flavor elevation you expect, with a delightful texture you didn’t.

With just 4 common ingredients and 3 easy-to-follow steps, I’ll show you how to make salted honey butter at home, and even give you some ideas on what to serve it with and how to store it. Let’s roll.

Ingredients for Honey Butter

The secret to this rich and creamy steakhouse favorite is that there is no secret. That’s right, while this salted honey butter seems fancy, this indulgent delight is just 4 ingredients you likely already have in your fridge and pantry. Here’s everything you need to have your guests in awe of this impossibly sweet and salty treat:

  • 1/2 cup of softened unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon flaky Kosher salt

Ingredients in glass bowls on black counter.

Tips for Making the Best Honey Butter

This simple recipe doesn’t take much to make a real crowdpleaser, but I’ve got a few tips to make your honey butter somehow even better:

  • Whisk. One of the things that make this steakhouse style honey butter such a hit is how light and fluffy it is. Yes, it’s sweet and delicious, but the airiness takes it to another level. I like to whisk my butter for a good 2 minutes before mixing in the rest of my ingredients. Otherwise you’ll get chunks instead of that nice, consistent smoothness.
  • Flake. A good flaky salt makes a huge difference when you add it to something sweet like honey butter. Not only does it bring out the sweetness of the honey and richness of the butter, it adds a wonderful flaky texture. You don’t know it until you have it, but salty flakes in your honey butter is all you ever wanted.
  • Drizzle. If you want to add yet another fun texture to your honey butter and give it even more depth of flavor, drizzle it with some fresh honey. That gooey honey mixed with those savory flakes of Kosher salt and your creamy honey butter are a flavor experience sure to please everyone.

How to Make Honey Butter

Making this salted honey butter at home is so easy you can wow your guests whenever you want. Whip this yummy stuff up yourself to top your favorite rolls in just 3 easy steps:

  1. Fluff butter. Place your softened butter in a large bowl and whisk with an electric or stand mixer for 2 minutes. You want to mix it until the butter is lightened in color and slightly fluffy. You won’t mix much after this step, so this is your chance to get the texture just how you like it.
  2. Add the rest. Once your butter is around the consistency you want for your finished honey butter, it’s time to add everything else. Add in your honey, vanilla, and salt, and then whisk again until it’s just barely combined. You want everything incorporated, but you want to retain the fluffiness you whisked so hard for.
  3. Top and serve. Transfer your mixed honey butter to your favorite serving dish. If you want to take this indulgent treat over the top, drizzle on some fresh honey and sprinkle on some large flaky salt. This will give you some extra textures on top of all the rich and sweet flavors.

How to Store Prepared Butter

An awesome thing about making your own honey butter at home is the self life. You can place your honey butter in an airtight container and store it in your refrigerator. Kept in the fridge this way, your honey butter will stay fresh up to 30 days. But if you have any of this delectable stuff leftover, you might be making it wrong.
