Ingredients for Whiskey Peach BBQ Sauce
The key to all great BBQ sauces is a great balanced blend of sweet, and savory, with a little punch of spice. This whiskey peach BBQ sauce gets the perfect amount of sweetness from peach preserves and a kiss of brown sugar, savory notes from the whiskey, and the perfect blend of spice from the homemade Sweet Rub.
Here’s what you’ll need to make this sauce:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 3/4 cup peach preserves
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup whiskey
- 2 Tablespoons molasses
- 2 Tablespoons Hey Grill Hey Sweet Rub
My Sweet Rub can be made from scratch using the recipe for Best Sweet Rub, or you can purchase a bottle from the Hey Grill Hey Store.
How to Make Whiskey Peach BBQ Sauce
It’s a breeze to make this sauce. All you need is a medium saucepan and a spoon and you’re ready to go! Here’s how to make whiskey peach BBQ sauce:
- Combine ingredients. Pour all ingredients into a medium saucepan. Bring the sauce to a boil, stirring frequently.
- Simmer. Once the sauce reaches a boil, reduce the heat and simmer the sauce for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure the sauce doesn’t burn. It should thicken up during this time to a nice BBQ sauce consistency.
- Cool. Remove the sauce from the heat and allow it to cool completely.
- Use or store. This sauce is ready to be used immediately, but I feel it tastes better the next day. Store the sauce in an airtight container or a glass mason jar until ready to use.
Tips for Making Whiskey Peach BBQ Sauce
Before you jump into making this sauce, I have a couple of tips to help you get the most flavor out of your sauce!
- Make in advance. I believe all homemade barbecue sauces are better the next day. Make your sauce a day in advance, cool completely, and then transfer to an air-tight container. Keep in the refrigerator overnight (or for at least 8 hours) to let all of those tasty flavors mellow together. It creates a much more cohesive and delicious sauce. My favorite sauce containers are these wide-mouth glass canning jars. Perfect for storing in the fridge or even giving as gifts.
- Play around with flavors. If you wanted to switch up the flavors in this sauce or you needed to substitute some of the ingredients, I thought I’d give you a few ideas to make this your own. You can easily swap the whiskey for bourbon, or if you wanted to skip the alcohol altogether I recommend using apple juice. If you’re not into (or can’t find) peach preserves, this sauce works great with apricot jam, apple jelly, or even orange marmalade. Each of those will add different flavors to the barbecue sauce, but should have the right consistency and sweetness to make the delicious sauce!

With peaches in season now,, what is the recipe for Whiskey Peach sauce with fresh peaches?..
I just made mine with 2 fresh peaches diced up small. I may zing in the blender once it cools. Tastes fabulous, and I did not add any additional sugar.
Just made the recipe will try it on chicken quarters, instead of Sweet Baby Rays. Thanks for sharing your recipes.
I used Strawberry, Rasberry and Blackberry peserves… WOW!!!
Excellent BBQ sauce recipe…..so much better than store bought! Family and neighbors loved it!
i used toquilla just as good.
How long will this last in the refrigerator in a mason jar?
I’d say a week, but it’s up to you.
Very good sauce. Used it on pulled pork. Definately will be my go-to bbq sauce! Thank you for sharing this recipe!
I used Peach Crown Royal for the whiskey and it was a game changer. Highly recommend!!
I was thinking about trying it that way…I’ve made the original and it’s amazing…
If I read all the reviews it seems like I’m kinda late to the party.First of all allow me to thank you for sharing the recipe, but i didn’t use it yet, instead i found out that you struck a deal with a vendor in the Netherlands, so to support you and your company I bought a bottle of this sauce, and used it today on some baby back ribs, and loved it.I will try to keep supporting you for as long as I can, but it’s good to know that if my vendor runs out I’m now able to make it myself. The recipe calls for peach preserves, if i translate it to Dutch, it says canned peach. I’m not sure if that is meant. We do have canned peaches on light syrup. But if that is not what is meant with peach preserves, wil it still work if i take those peaches out of the syrup and blitz those in a food processor?I wish I found out about this sauce earlier, because it’s a winner.Greetings from the other side of the big pond that is between us.And if you want to, please say hi to Todd from me as well.
There are many recipes for peach preserves on the internet. I made my own and made the sauce…. I can’t say if it is better then the commercially produced version as I did not buy it but I can say that it is the best BBQ sauce I have ever used.
Peach preserves is like a peach jelly or jam! You can also try with other fruits like apricot or orange marmalade.
I’ve used this recipe before and my family loved it! Last time i didn’t make enough and i didn’t make enough of your sweet rib, which is now a staple in my household for anything on the smoker. This time i made a quadruple mix of your sweet rub and a double of your whiskey peach rub (i used a family peach cut whiskey) and i swear all my older aunt’s and uncle’s where dancin in joy over the taste of it. They asked me for the sauce recipe and i gave them them your recipe (without my pappy’s whiskey, he only gave me the recipe). I would’ve included pics but honestly i don’t know how.
