Bacon Wrapped Oreos

Bacon wrapped Oreos are a viral treat that have many people raising a skeptical eyebrow (and for good reason!). It sounds super strange, but they’re actually quite tasty. These Oreos are a great mix of sweet and savory with a unique texture that will leave you pleasantly surprised.

The bacon renders into the Oreo cookie and creates a texture similar to a cookie dipped in milk. It becomes soft in the middle and smoky/crunchy on the edges. Here at Hey Grill Hey, we’re always testing how many things can be wrapped in bacon, and it turns out, you really can wrap anything in bacon, including Oreos!

Ingredients for Bacon Wrapped Oreos

These Oreos only require 3 ingredients to make. Here’s what you’ll need before you fire up the smoker.

My Sweet Rub is a great brown sugar-based BBQ rub that is just as good on meat as it is on veggies and desserts. You can make it from scratch using my recipe for Best Sweet Rub or you can purchase a bottle pre-made from the Hey Grill Hey Store.

How to Make Bacon Wrapped Oreos

Now that you have your Oreos, bacon, and Sweet Rub ready to go, it’s time to fire up the grill! Here’s how to make bacon wrapped Oreos on your smoker!

  1. Preheat. Fire up your favorite smoker to 275 degrees F using mild wood. Maple and pecan work well for this recipe. You can also cook these in the oven preheated to the same temperature.
  2. Wrap. Carefully wrap each Oreo in a half slice of bacon. Place the bacon seam side down on a flat cooling rack.
  3. Season. Sprinkle the tops of the bacon wrapped Oreos with Hey Grill Hey Sweet Rub
  4. Smoke. Place the rack of Oreos on the preheated smoker. Close the lid, and smoke for 30-45 minutes. This time may vary slightly depending on the thickness of your bacon and the consistency of the heat in your smoker.
  5. Enjoy. Remove the Oreos from the smoker when the bacon is cooked through and beginning to crisp. Allow them to cool slightly before digging it.

Tips for Making Bacon Wrapped Oreos

These bacon wrapped Oreos are extremely easy to make, but I do have a few tips to help you get the best sweet and savory treat around.

  • Use regular bacon. I recommend using regular-thickness bacon instead of a thick or thin cut. It seems to hold up best while cooking.
  • Play around with your seasonings! You can swap the Sweet Rub in this recipe for other seasonings to change up the flavor. You can use just straight brown sugar, your favorite BBQ Rub, or add a little cayenne pepper to any seasoning for a kick of heat.
  • Have fun with different flavored Oreos! In our taste test, we tried regular Oreors, Golden Oreos, Pumpkin Pie Oreos (SUPER BEST), and some Peanut Butter Pie Oreos (which we did not love). You can try a bunch of different flavors as we did and give them a try!

  • Preheat. Preheat the smoker to 275 degrees F using mild wood like maple or pecan.
  • Wrap in bacon. Wrap each Oreo cookie with a half piece of bacon, ensuring the seam of the bacon sits under the Oreo so it stays wrapped while cooking.
  • Season. Place the wrapped Oreos on a flat rack. Season the tops of the bacon-wrapped Oreos with Hey Grill Hey Sweet Rub.
  • Smoke. Set the whole tray on the smoker, close the lid, and cook for 30-45 minutes. Mine usually take the full 45, but if your bacon is thinner, they may take less time. Start checking them for doneness at 30 minutes.
  • Enjoy. Remove the tray from the smoker and allow the Oreos to cool slightly before serving them warm.
