This Mesquite Seasoning Blend is an awesome blend of 8 different seasonings and ingredients. It makes make for the most amazing, flavorful, and spicy seasoning. Use it on pulled pork, salmon and more to add a nice smoky flavor with the perfect amount of heat.
Making Your Own Homemade Seasonings
This mesquite seasoning blend comes compliments of Hey Grill Hey’s Grill Squad member, Ed Rasbold. Two months ago we challenged Grill Squad members to watch our Rubs and Seasonings Masterclass video (available to all Grill Squad members), and asked them to use what they learned in the video to make their own seasoning or sauce and submit it to Todd and myself for a taste test.
The winner of the challenge received the honors of having their recipe posted to Hey Grill Hey’s website. After trying a handful of amazing rubs, seasonings, and sauces, we were absolutely in love with this mesquite seasoning blend from Ed.
If you’re interested in learning the basics of making your own rubs and sauces from scratch, and how to get the right flavor profiles in your recipes, we’d love to have you in the Squad!
Spicy Mesquite Seasoning
Let’s get into some details of this seasoning, shall we? It’s spicy, smoky, with a nice kiss of heat. This is not your typical seasoning. Cajun seasoning, chipotle powder, and mesquite powder all add the most incredible flavor, and the dark brown sugar and pink Himalayan salt add the perfect amount of sweet and salty to the mix.
This seasoning could be used on just about any BBQ you have going on your grill, but I think it would taste best on pork shoulder, chicken, or salmon. But, honestly, I say get creative with this seasoning and try is on whatever you’re about to cook up. It’ll make any BBQ taste sooo good.
How to Store Homemade Seasonings
When making your own homemade seasonings, I often recommend storing them in a airtight container or lidded jar. The cheapest way to do this is to save the bottle when you have spices that run out.
If you are like me, and you’re making your own spice blends often, you can also buy empty spice bottles. These are great to have on hand, and also make for the perfect neighbor gifts during Christmas or other special occasions. If you’re making a batch and you have a lot of seasoning leftover, mason jars or any other containers will do just fine.

What cajun seasoning did you use? I have the Hey Grill, Hey cajun seasoning recipe open in another window right now, is that it?
This recipe was made with a premade cajun seasoning, but you can absolutely use this one.
