Fruit Kabobs on the Grill

I’m more than a little obsessed with kabobs on the grill, so it was just a matter of time before I ventured into making some fruit kabobs on the grill. When my dad celebrated his 70th birthday with a big family brunch, I offered to bring all of the goodies for a sweet dessert and fruit kabob bar and it was a huge hit!

My recommendation for these is to turn this venture into a dessert bar. Set out all the ingredients with skewers and have your family or guests build their own fruit kabob (or grilled dessert kabob if you have a sweet tooth). Once everyone has their kabob assembled, toss them on the grill for a few minutes and serve with some warmed chocolate sauce or ice cream on the side.

Ingredients for Grilled Fruit Kabobs

For the kabobs, prep a bunch of fruits and sweets that will hold up well on the grill. I used pineapple, peaches, and strawberries for this particular recipe, but you can switch it up! Feel free to use whatever are your favorites, but I recommend trying out the following:

  • Pineapple
  • Peaches
  • Mangoes
  • Strawberries
  • Oranges
  • Watermelon

If you’re going for a fresh fruit side, you’re good to stop here. I often like to make these into a tasty dessert with the addition of the following:

  • Cubed pound cake
  • Glazed doughnut holes
  • Fudgy brownie bites

Once you have all your fruit (and dessert!) sliced into similar sizes, you’re ready to get these on the grill.

How to Grill Fruit Kabobs

I’m not kidding when I say this is one of the easiest desserts you’ll ever make on the grill. It takes 4 steps to get these grilled fruit kabobs from prepped to in your guests’ tummies!

  1. Preheat. Get your grill running at 450 degrees F. You can cook this on any grill you have in your backyard, but I like the simplicity of a gas grill or the flavor of a charcoal grill.
  2. Assemble. Slice all your fruit and dessert into similar-sized bite-sized pieces. Alternate placing the fruit and dessert on skewers. I like to use stainless steel skewers because they hold up well and I can use them over and over again.
  3. Grill! Place the assembled fruit kabobs directly on the grill. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until the fruit and desserts are starting to caramelize.
  4. Enjoy. Take care with these coming right off the grill, as some of the fruit will be quite hot. Once they’ve cooled slightly, you’re ready to dig in! I like to serve mine with hot fudge, chocolate sauce, or even some vanilla bean ice cream!

How Long to Grill Fruit Kabobs

It only takes about 4-6 minutes to grill fruit kabobs. In fact, I recommend staying grill-side and monitoring everything while it is on the grill to ensure everything cooks to caramelized perfection.

Grill the fruit kabobs for 2-3 minutes, then rotate and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Your grilled fruit kabobs are done when everything starts to char without getting too dark. I recommend pulling these off the grill earlier rather than later to ensure the sugars don’t catch and char too much.
